Parenting a Teenager Session

A  “Parenting a teenager session” was organized on June 18, 2022 at IBA Main Campus. The event was hosted by IBA CED in collaboration with Valeem. Parents, teenagers and honorable guests from diverse fields of life attended the event, as a result making the total participation to be 200+ attendees.

Introductory Remarks

The session started with recitation of the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthem. Mr. Azad Ahmed, Acting Head IBA CED greeted the guests and Participants. During his welcome note he shared the journey of IBA CED since its inception in 2008 and how CED has been providing training to aspiring entrepreneurs since then. In addition to this, Mr. Ahmed shed light on the need and importance of Entrepreneurship among the teenagers.

Dr. Shahid Qureshi, (Ex-Program Director IBA CED and rector Gift University) in his introductory remarks, shared his own success story. He later highlighted the need of creating an entrepreneurial mindset among the teenagers.  Furthermore Dr. Qureshi explains how IBA CED aims to promote entrepreneurship among the youth of Pakistan

According to Dr Shahid, the obsession over the conventional mode of education needs to end.  While advising the participants, particularly the parents, he said, “A degree alone does not guarantee success, therefore skills must also be learned in order to become a successful person.”

An introduction on the Summer camps 2022  for Kids and teenagers was provided by Ms. Misbah Amin (Program Coordinator IBA CED). She has experience in managing entrepreneurship programs as well as summer camps in the past. Ms. Amin also shared the details of the upcoming events, alongside providing highlights from the past ones.

Special Guests and Speakers

Mr. Mustafa Bhagpati, Ms. Sara Faizan, Mr. Hamza Ali and Dr. Tasneem Kausar graced the event with their presence. Ms. Shazia Khan, a renowned journalist and anchor presented her ideas in front of the audience. During her Keynote speech she discussed how parenting has changed over the years and stressed on reshaping the mindsets of the younger generation.

Panel Discussion

A panel discussion was held discussing the common issues faced by teenagers. Ms. Azima Dhanjee ( Co-founder ConnectHear) moderated the session, while the team of panelists comprised of Mr. Ali Rehan (Co- founder Valeem), Ms. Kanwal Abbasi (Parenting and mental health counselor), Mr. Ahmed Saya ( THE WORLD’S BEST TEACHER Title holder, O/ A level instructor), Mr. Abid Ali ( Co-founder Pakistan Debate Council, Former Parliamentarian), Ms. Sidrat Asim( Parenting Coach) and Mr. Ahmed Hassan ( Co- founder KHUD MUHAFIZ).

Panelists exchanged their insights as well as viewpoints on the topic of teenage parenting.  “Both verbal and non-verbal cues play a significant role in parenting”, said Ms. Kanwal. “Respect is the only solution in order to boost the self-esteem and confidence of your children”.

While advising the parents, Mr. Saya said, “The parents design a mold for their children to fit in, whereas every child is different and possess different skills, these are God Gifted and just need to be polished.”

An interactive questions and answers session was also held between the parents and the experts. Parents gained an insight on handling teenage problems which was the main aim of parenting a teenager session.

Valuable piece of advice from  Co-founder Valeem

Mr. Muhammad Ghayas Uddin  (Co-founder Valeem ) shared his view points. During his speech he highlighted the importance of loving and respecting your parents, alongside advising the parents to trust their children. Ms Atefa Jamal concluded the session by putting an emphasis on homeschooling.

Summer Camps

All the participants were provided with the details of the upcoming Summer Camps. Not only this,  Valeem also offered a discount worth RS. 1500 to all the attendees of Parenting a teenager session.

Details about Summer Camp Kids 2022 (27th June to1st July 2022)  and Summer Camp Teenagers 2022 (18th July to 27th July 2022) were provided.
